Burgkino

The Burgkino in Vienna’s 1st district was founded back in 1912. By 1914 it already had a capacity for 370 people. From 1930 sound films were shown in this cinema. It owes its name to its immediate proximity to the Burgtheater. Today it is a modern, well-equipped cinema. The Burgkino mainly shows the latest blockbusters.

Metro Kinokulturhaus

From 1840, the Elysium entertainment venue was located in Johannesgasse in Vienna’s 1st municipal district. During the Second World War it was run as a comedy theatre called Komödie. Since 1951, the Metro Kino has been in the building. In 2002 it was taken over by the Filmarchiv Austria and renovated. Even today, the Kino Kultur Haus is a popular excursion destination.

Schikaneder

The English Cinema Haydn in Vienna’s 4th municipal district is a combination of fine marble and Art Nouveau on the one hand and state-of-the-art technology on the other. The cinema has 4 halls. These are equipped with current digital projectors (Christie) and 3D technology (Real D). Thus the small cinema represents a real experience for film lovers.

Top Kino

Stadtkino Künstlerhaus

The Stadtkino was opened in 1981 in Vienna’s 1st municipal district. The cinema enchants with its unmistakable international and national offering. An extraordinary, handpicked programme is shown, a mix of its own events such as the Resistance Cinema (Widerstandskino), Kinderkinoradl, QueerFilmNights, premieres, festivals and events.

Urania Kino – Cine Magic

The cinema was opened in 1985. Since then it has offered its visitors numerous film-educational and film-cultural events. The operators place particularly great value on a professional programme selection that guarantees high-quality entertainment. Likewise, a particularly good sound and image quality as well as child-friendly facilities are in focus.

Gartenbaukino

The Gartenbaukino on the Vienna Ringstraße opened back in 1919. After its destruction in the Second World War, it was rebuilt at the same location in 1960. The Gartenbaukino is one of the oldest cinemas in Vienna and one of the last still-operating single-hall cinemas in the city. Today the popular premiere cinema is the main venue of the Viennale film festival.

Votivkino

The Votivkino in Vienna’s 9th district was built back in 1912. This makes it one of the oldest still-existing Viennese cinemas. In 1986 it was equipped with two additional halls and repositioned as an arthouse cinema. Visitors can enjoy films in this tradition-rich cinema with a maximum of comfort and technology. A large selection of high-quality films is shown.

Lugner Kino

Combining shopping with leisure pleasure is no problem at the Lugner Kino. Because the cinema is located right in the middle of the Lugner City in Vienna’s 15th municipal district. Here visitors can stroll to their heart’s content through various shops. In addition to 13 cinema halls, the Lugner Kino offers you a lounge and a bar. In the central city location on the Vienna Gürtel, no wish really remains unfulfilled.

Apollo Kino

The Apollo Theater in Vienna’s 7th municipal district was a theatre and variety institution. The Mariahilf cinema gained importance as the premiere venue of a series of operettas by Ralph Benatzky and, since 1929, also as a cinema. The Cinecenter in Vienna’s 1st municipal district looks back on an eventful 40-year history. When the cinema opened, it was, with its 4 halls, one of the first multi-hall cinemas in Vienna. As a special feature, it continuously offers themed evenings, country programmes, film festivals, children’s programmes, school cinema, film nights and more.

English Cinema Haydn

The English Cinema Haydn was opened in 1912. The special feature of the cinema is that it exclusively shows films in their original English version. Moreover, at most screenings subtitles are even dispensed with. The programme is designed to be very varied. From blockbusters to sophisticated arthouse films, there is something for every cinemagoer.

Actors Studio

If you are looking for a cinema in Vienna’s first municipal district, the Actors Studio is recommended. Here films for all age groups are shown. If you want to make sure you get your desired seat, tickets can be reserved by phone. The Actors Studio, together with some other city-centre cinemas, belongs to the Constantin Film Cineplexx group.

Filmcasino

The Filmcasino in Margareten mostly shows the films in their original languages with subtitles. You can find the cinema’s programme on its website. The Filmcasino opened back in 1911 in Margaretenstraße. Back then it was still a cinematograph theatre, which showed films until 1919. Later it was renamed the Margaretner Bürgerkino. The cinema is definitely worth a visit.
