Kaffee Alt Wien

Kaffee Alt Wien is one of Vienna’s most distinctive traditional coffeehouses. Located in the heart of the city, it has preserved the character of a classic family-run Viennese café while becoming a popular meeting place for a younger, creative crowd.

The interior appears to have barely changed for generations and is full of lived history. Its walls are covered with colourful posters, concert announcements and advertisements from different decades. The slightly worn, unpolished atmosphere is part of its charm and contrasts with the lively, youthful clientele. Since becoming known as a late-night café, Kaffee Alt Wien has developed an almost legendary place in Vienna’s café scene.

Despite all the historic patina, the coffee is freshly prepared. One of the house specialities is goulash, a hearty Central European classic that is prepared fresh and served throughout the day.
