Café Frauenhuber on Himmelpfortgasse in Vienna’s 1st district is regarded as one of the oldest coffeehouses in the city. Since its early days in the 19th century, it has been known for lively conversation as well as its calm and traditional atmosphere.
The café became particularly popular with retired civil servants and military officers, who gathered here for games of chess and whist. Later, Frauenhuber also became known for its egg punch, traditionally served during the carnival season.
Today, Café Frauenhuber remains a popular meeting place for visitors of all ages. Tourists can even find explanations of the many different Viennese coffee specialities. Despite its long history, the café has an unpretentious and welcoming character.
The menu includes traditional Viennese cuisine as well as international dishes, while the pastries are homemade. A separate room can be rented for meetings, and the outdoor pavement garden offers seating for around 40 guests.
